Philosophy

Our philosophy at TMAC is that Karate should be both fun and challenging.

We simply ask that you give each class your best effort and enjoy what you are doing.  That is not to say that Karate with TMAC will be easy but it will be rewarding.

KARATE:.

Shotokan Karate: Kids & Adults

Shotokan Karate-do(SHOW-TOE-KHAN) is a form of Japanese Karate (Empty hand) developed by Gichin Funakoshi. He learned his karate from different teachers in Okinawa earning recognition as a great martial artist. He was invited to teach his karate in Tokyo, Japan and is known as the Father of Karate.

Funakoshi’s Shotokan karate-do is a “KIAI” art characterized by forcing one’s energy into techniques. Shotokan Karate-Do is recognizable by its linear, direct punching, blocking, kicking techniques, and deep stances. Shotokan emphasizes correct posture, correct joint alignment, and formality of basic technique. The Shotokan expert is expected to perform using defined basic techniques even under harsh conditions.

. An exciting martial arts style, Shotokan Karate-Do practice includes Kihon (Basics), Kata (Form practice), Kumite (Free sparring), Kobudo (Weapons training), Kobudo Kumite (Weapons free sparring), and Situational Self-Defense. By polishing our Karate practice, we are polishing our own character and fighting spirit.
